Turtle Symposium Organized on World Turtle Day

Environment Protection and Study Center (ENPROSC) in collaboration with Companions for Amphibians and Reptiles of Nepal (CARON) and Goldengate International College (GGIC) organized a virtual sharing program”Turtle Talk: A Symposium on Turtles of Nepal” on May 23, 2020, to mark World Turtle Day. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic outbreak, the program this year was conducted unlike past years using online Zoom platform. The program was successfully attended by 75 participants where  five speakers from fields of Herpetofauna research provided insights on  different burning issues.

Dr. Man Kumar Dhamala, Mr. Shyam Pun, Mr. Pramananda Rajbanshi, Mr. Sandesh Neupane and Mr. Omkar Bhatt provided information and shared knowledge on diverse including ‘Research and Education in Turtles in Academia’. The presenters shared their field experiences while working on turtle related issues and highlighted needs and challenges for turtle conservation such as Pet trade/ use of online trade. The program was open access and reached to a wide range of participants including academics, students, enthusiasts and government officials (National park Authorities) from throughout the Nation. The program is a first of its kind in Nepal highlighting and focusing turtle conservation. It was covered by national news media ‘Katipur’ which highlights problems raised in the platform related to turtle conservation and its possible solutions.
